Description

Crater Lake is a main attraction of Crater Lake National Park in state of Oregon, United States. It is situated between San Francisco and Seattle It is a caldera lake formed by the collapse of land following a volcanic eruption of the Mount Mazama about 7700 years ago. The place considered to be sacred by Klamath people who made beautiful legend about the lake.

What Makes It Special

Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States. By maximum depth (1,949 feet) it is ranked as the 9th deepest lake in the world with amazingly clear water of samphire color. Surrounded by 2,000 feet high vertical wall of cliffs Crater Lake is 5 by 6 miles across and contains 4.6 trillion gallons of water though the lake has no inlets or outlets only winter snow. Wizard Island is the only island on the lake. It rises 755 feet (230 m) as a cone above the lake surface, on the top you can find crater about 500 feet (150 m) wide and 100 feet (30 m) deep. It was called the "Witches Cauldron" ).

Useful Visitor Information and Tips

The best time to see the rim and the lake is June - September. The park is open all year round. You can swim, go fishing, make boat trips, scuba dive.
