Kanyakumar is the city in Tamil Nadu state, one of the 28 states of India. It located in the southernmost part of the Indian Peninsula and looks at the Bay of Bengal in the east, the Gulf of Mannar, the Palk Strait in the south east, and at the Indian Ocean in the south. What Makes It Special
Kanyakumari (also known as Cape Comorin) is a point of meeting of two seas, the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. Kanyakumari is an ancient pilgrimage place with a Kumari Amman Temple which is 1,000 year old. The place itself and the temple are named after the Goddess Kannyakumari Amman, the presiding deity of the area. The legend says that she was about to marry Lord Shiva but he did not come to the wedding and she became a Virgin Goddess. Rare event which happens in April when you can see sunset and full moonrise at the same time attracts a lot of spectators. You can get to Kanyakumari by train, by air (Trivandrum is the nearest airport, which is 80 km away from Kanyakumari), by bus (there are regular bus routs from all southern major cities of India) or you can drive. Best time to go is April when there is a rare event of sunset and full moonrise at the same time.
