What Makes It Special

The lake is overwhelmingly picturesque and quiet. It may be compared with the Lake Como in Italy by its beauty and with three volcanoes added make Lake Atitlánt even more beautiful, as wrote Aldous Huxley. It is surrounded by many Maya villages, in which people speak their ancestors languages and follows their traditions and beliefs. The Atitlán Butterfly Sanctuary, sheltering over 35 species of butterflies and Bird Refuge with more than 720 bird species is a part of Nature Reserve of San Buenaventura.
