What Makes It Special

Parthenon is a unique historic, architectural and art site. The temple is located in Acropolis which means "highest city" or citadel. There are many acropoleis in Greece. They are always located on the highest spot above the city and served as a place of hiding and defense for the population at the time of war. The Acropolis in Athens is a fascinating sight with the crown jewel of Greek and world art - Parthenon. The beauty of the Parthenon ruins with the exterior colonnade and Doric metopes on the freeze above it, sculptural decorations and the mere size of the temple give the visitor a feeling of awe and a true sense of the greatness of the ancient Greeks. Acropolis of Athens is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
