Who does not know about the Las Vegas Strip - a four mile stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard? Even if you have never been to Las Vegas, chances are that you've heard about this scenic place especially during nighttime when all the glamor of surrounding hotels and attractions is on display. The most interesting part of the Strip is much smaller though. It is located between the Wynn Hotel on the north and Bellagio on the south. Few people know about Difficult Run, one of the most scenic spots in Great Falls, Virginia. Passing under Georgetown Pike, Difficult Run speeds through a steep gorge with waterfalls reaching the Potomac River with panoramic views at the mouth of Difficult Run. I happen to love it - this short film is my humble attempt to show this enchanting place to those who do not know it.

We are approaching the end of our virtual tour of Amalfi. This is the last installment of our four-part gallery dedicated to the town, a popular tourist destination in Italy. Previously, we looked at the very center of Amalfi and what you can find walking inland (Part 1 and Part 2). In Part 3, we looked at the eastern side of the town. It time to complete our exploration with looking at Amalfi's western end (beginning from piazza Flavio Gioia in the direction towards Positano).

Having explored inland areas of Amalfi around the central string of its several streets, via Lorenzo d'Amalfi, via Pietro Capuano, via Cardinal Marino Del Giudice (which is essentially the same street with different parts having different names) in part one and part two of our Amalfi photo gallery, we are ready to shift our attention to the areas east from the town's center covered on this page and to the west (Part 4).

We continue our exploration of Amalfi's historic center. The first part of our Amalfi photo gallery covered the area from piazza Flavio Gioia to the beginning of via Cardinal Marino Del Giudice. In the second part, we'll walk a bit further inland until the place called "Faenza." Then we return back following essentially the same route until we reach piazza Duomo paying more attention to the western side of our itinerary. Instead of continuing through piazza Duomo, we will turn right to explore largo Duca Piccolomini and piazza dei Dogi.

In addition to our page with the travel idea describing Amalfi (Italy) we added to our site extensive photo galleries about the town of Amalfi. Amalfi is not big - its population is less than six thousand people. However, because of its location, climate, historic and cultural heritage as well as the beauty of the sea and surrounding landscape, many thousands of visitors come to Amalfi. And there is a lot to see in the town. The first part of the gallery starts on piazza Flavio Gioia, a transportation hub with buses, cars and boats arriving to the square every day loading and unloading visitors. From piazza Flavio Gioia we'll proceed to piazza Duomo and then inland reaching the point where the limited traffic zone ends

I bet even those who frequently travel to Amalfi Coast, may have never heard about Castellabate, a medieval town in the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano in the province of Salerno. It is located 56 miles (91 km) from the town of Amalfi (less than 2-hour drive). More important however, is that although the town of Castellabate is not on the coast, it is still famous as a sea town thanks to the villages of Santa Maria di Castellabate, San Marco di Castellabate and Ogliastro Marina. This page should give you an idea what is Santa Maria di Castellabate - the largest and the closest to Castellabate village.

We continue the exploration of San Gimignano, a charming Tuscan medieval hill town. In Part I we started our walking tour with entering the town through its northern gate, porta San Matteo, and gradually getting to piazza Duomo. Several very popular attractions are located on the square. However, in Part II of the tour, we limit our exploration of piazza Duomo by looking at surrounding palaces and their architecture. Then, we turn left and continue walking around Collegiata up the hill to visit the town's fortress.

The third part of our tour is dedicated entirely to Palazzo Comunale (Municipal Palace or, simply, Town Hall). It does not involve a lot of walking, but I would allocate a couple of hours to this place. Its main attraction is the Museo Civico and Torre Grossa (Civic Museum and Big Tower).

If you remember, we started our tour with entering the historic (walled) center of San Gimignano through its northern gate, Porta San Matteo, and continued south on nd around via San Matteo. We gradually reached piazza del Duomo, explored La Rocca (small fortress) and, upon returning back to piazza del Duomo, visited museum located in Palazzo Comunale as well as Torre Grossa and Collegiata. Our next stop is on piazza della Cisterna which is literally two steps from piazza Duomo.

La colline du Chateau (Castle Hill), considered to be the birthplace of the town of Nice, is an old fortified site that was occupied by Celtic Ligurians. During Middle Ages, the whole area became a formidable stronghold, Château de Nice, with mighty walls surrounding the lower part of the town (known now as Vieux Nice or Old Nice). The castle was dismantled in 1706 when, during the war of Spanish Succession, the area was occupied by France. It was converted into a park at the end of 19th century. As we learned from Part I of the gallery, "Le Chateau" in Nice, France, isn't a chateau. The old castle on top of La colline du Chateau (a rocky hill overlooking Nice old town and the port) was destroyed in 1706. Still it is one of the main attractions in Nice and a great place to visit. Some tourist guides point to the fact that the rise in tourism was triggered by the publication of the book "Under the Tuscan Sun" by American writer Frances Mayes and later on by the movie of the same name. Whether this is true or not, Cortona is a very interesting and well-preserved medieval place with its stone paved narrow streets, many historic palaces, churches and buildings. Given the central location of Cortona, the town can be used as a starting point for visiting other places in central Italy either by car or train. Arezzo and Siena are among places. Finally, Cortona has a good tourist infrastructure is many hotels and places to eat.

As you remember we started our exploration of Positano at Sponda (this happens to be the Eastern part of the town). We continued idle browsing along the streets of the town going down. As ancients say - all the ways lead to Rome, in our case our ways lead us to "Spiaggia Grande" (Big Beach).
