Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center

Address: 8701 World Center Drive Orlando, FL 32821, USA
Orlando World Center Marriott on map

Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center is a large complex well known among both, leisure and business travelers from all over the world. Its popularity is well deserved due to its prime location and proximity to Walt Disney World Resort (about 5 miles - World Center Drive continues as Epcot Center Drive on the other side of I-4) as well as large event space occupying a total of 450,000 square feet. Add to this Orlando World Center accommodations facilities with about 2000 rooms and 80 suites, several restaurants, bars and lounges, its own golf course, plus a complex with 6 pools, waterfalls, water ride and whirlpools in a lagoon-like setting, and you will understand why this piece of real estate located on more than 200 prime acres is so much appreciated by many visitors.

Although I place this write-up under the "Review" category, what I really try to accomplish is to give some practical ideas of what to expect at Orlando World Center Marriott to those travelers who have never been there. Indeed, the resort and convention complex is huge, and I am sure you will find both, what you like and what you do not like. So, let me summaries some of my observations regarding this place - I hope they will make sense to our readers.

1. Orlando World Center Marriott is a huge enterprise - no matter how hard management is trying to establish good business practices in maintaining the place and serving their customers, there always may be some issues during your stay not to your liking. But spending some time at this place, talking to its personnel, I am firmly convinced that most employees serving Center guests try to do their best to make visitors staying as good as it can possibly be.

2. The second implication of the size of Orlando World Center Marriott is that its primary market niche is to serve large groups of people - some conferences and conventions hosted by the Center have up to 1500 participants and more. That's where the mass production and assembly-line type of service may creep (should I say inevitably) into your experience with the Center. That's where you need to decide if Orlando World Center Marriott is the right place for you to stay. If you want a service typical for a boutique hotel - go and find one; the Center is not one of them.

3. At the same time, the above does not mean that you will hit a wall of unfriendly, impersonal attitude and that you will be surrounded by crowds of people. Surprisingly, some resort areas like main pool are not that busy as you might think - many hotel guests, participants of various conferences, simply do not have time for day-time entertainment. Leisure travelers often disappear for the whole day spending their time at many attractions surrounding the Center. As far as personal touch is concerned, I can also guarantee that you will have many opportunities to experience it simply because many business units at the Center, for example, its restaurants, enjoy considerable independence in ways they organize their business and service.

Please visit our photo gallery below with more than 100 photos showing real life and scenes at Orlando World Center Marriott free of market puffery. There are many comments - read them; hopefully they will help clarify my summary thoughts above.

Orlando World Center Marriott - Common Areas: Lobby and Falls Pool

East Tower of the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center. Convention center facilities are on the right side of the photo.

Main entrance of the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center. When you enter the hotel you are in its East Tower (the structure in the center background of the photo) which is effectively in the center of the complex even if the name of the tower implies that it is just one of four parts of the Marriott.

Close-up on the main entrance of the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center. It is quite unusual to see no hotel guests on this photo. The hotel is very big and there is always a traffic of visitors in and out of the hotel day and night.

Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center - lobby and long reception desk (on the right side of the photo). Even if there may be 20 or more reception clerks, at peak hours you may spent some time in line to check-in.

The Lobby Bar and Lounge in Orlando World Center Marriott. It has a contemporary look, and it is a natural place for hanging out available from mid afternoon until late evening. Although smoking is prohibited inside, you can enjoy your cigar on the Lobby Veranda overlooking the waterfalls pool.

Orlando World Center Marriott - view on structures and the glass roof from inside the hotel lobby.

Orlando World Center Marriott - this small stand with lemonade (both, lemon and orange tastes) is offered to guests. Details like this add to the overall pleasant, relaxed and inviting environment at the hotel.

Orlando World Center Marriott - view on East Tower glass roof from inside at night. The roof is clean and when it is dark outside reflects the whole lobby like in a mirror.

One of the cozy corners in the reception area of Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center. This particular desk is a place where you can book various tours and excursions at different local attractions.

This indoor pond with tropical fish is on the first floor of the Convention Center at Orlando World Center Marriott.

Starbucks at Orlando World Center is located in the main lobby, offering usual Starbucks stuff: coffees, lattes, cappuccinos, frappuccinos and pastries. Opened from 6 am until 11 pm.

A small shop called "News Network" is located in the main lobby area next to Starbucks at Orlando World Center Marriott. The shop sells a little bit of everything. Prices are high especially for some commodity items. For example, a medium bottle of water is 4.50 dollars (price 2010).

There are several places where you can find computer stations in the lobby and convention center areas. Those three on the photo are dedicated to on-line airline check-ins - you can print boarding pass on printers next to computers. Other computer stations may offer services including Web access (with the promise of deleting automatically all your private information you may leave on the computer). Unfortunately, we found that not all of these facilities are in working conditions.

This is a hallway connecting East Tower and lobby with West and North Towers. Entrance to Solaris Restaurant is on the right side of the picture.

Typical decor and furnishing inside Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center halls.

The entrance to the Mikado Japanese Steak House is from the hall connecting East and West towers. Mikado is located in a separate outbuilding overlooking the main resort pool. As all main restaurants at Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center, Mikado is opened from 6 pm to 10 pm.

Lobby Veranda overlooking the waterfalls pool at Orlando World Center Marriott. During hot days it is usually empty - most people who enjoy the sun prefer to stay near the pool itself. However, during evening time, this veranda is quite busy with guests enjoying beer, wine, cigars and other sins of the humankind.

View from Lobby Veranda at Orlando World Center Marriott on South Tower (waterfalls pool would be on the right side of the picture). South tower is the smallest and lowest of all towers of the hotel. Falls pool is on its one side; golf course and Hawk's Landing restaurant is on the other.

Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center in all its glory as viewed from the Falls Pool area.

With some degree of imagination, Falls (or waterfalls) Pool from some distance may look like a small village in the middle of a jungle. Rocks and waterfalls (both man-made but realistic and cute at the same time) and yellow umbrellas contribute to the inviting look of the whole setting of Orlando World Center Marriott Resort.

One step closer to the Falls Pool at Orlando World Center Marriott, and all usual attributes of a resort become quite apparent. No complaints about it - the pool is large and has plenty of space and facilities to indulge yourself with everything a good resort can offer: from sun and water to games and drinks.

Mikado Japanese Steak House I mentioned above is located in a separate building connected to the hotel with a walkway. This building is surrounded by pool on two sides (its third side faces West Tower) - Mikado is visible on this picture (center background).

Areas around Falls Pool at Orlando World Center Marriott are well taken care of. There are plenty of various plants and flowers. Plush lawns, palm trees with a nicely design land- and hardscapes also offering cozy pockets of privacy produce very pleasant impression.

The Pavilion Pool Bar at Orlando World Center. Usually it serves lunch until late afternoon (5 pm). Mostly, it is a place where you can conveniently, without moving away from the pool, enjoy Margaritas, Cosmopolitans and so on. Cocktails are 12 dollars, sandwiches are 13 - 15 dollars (2010 prices).

Click this picture to enlarge it, and you will see that guests of the Pavilion Pool Bar (Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center) are quite relaxed and there are no restriction on the attire required (as soon as you have one).

The Pavilion Pool Bar (Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center) at night - closed but nicely illuminated.

Attempt to reproduce wild habitat around the Falls Pool area at Orlando World Center Marriott Resort is rather successful as the picture above illustrates even if rocks look like painted ones.

The waterfall pool at Orlando World Center Marriott Resort has vast recreational areas, passages with flowers and decorative plants.

This is a separate smaller pool (located near Falls Pool at Orlando World Center Marriott) where you can play volleyball in the water - there is a net already installed and the shape of the pool is designed for this type of activities.

This structure with artificial waterfalls is one of the main attractions at Falls Pool (Orlando World Center Marriott Resort). Below waterfalls, there is another small pool or spa completely separated from the main pool. It is a perfect place for those who are trying to avoid harsh Florida sun.

Water slide ride (Falls Pool at Orlando World Center Marriott) from the top of man-made rocks to the waterfall pool. The ride is not a tall one but good enough for teenagers.

This display lists rules water slide riders should follow (Falls Pool at Orlando World Center Marriott).

This picture gives you somewhat better idea of the size and layout of water slide ride (Falls Pool at Orlando World Center Marriott) - after turning left as you see in the picture it turns right and after passing under another set of man-made rocks ends up in the waterfalls pool.

The most important rule to abide by is the height of water slide riders. They must be 42 inches or taller. This is safety rule and it is enforced by Orlando World Center Marriott personnel watching the slide.

Looking back at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center. You can see Pavilion Bar & Grill with its green roof. In the background: East Tower - on the left and center, South Tower is on the right behind Pavilion.

View on West Tower across Falls Pool (Orlando World Center Marriott). As you can see, this part of the complex does not look like a tower at all. If viewed from above, West tower resembles three-leaf structure. Taller building in background on the right is the North Tower - the second tallest at the resort after East Tower.

Orlando World Center Marriott - Convention Center Facilities

Convention Center Entrance hall (Orlando World Center Marriott). Convention Center is located on the lower level of the complex in the eastern wing of the resort (adjacent to East Tower). It has its own entrance with large circular driveway allowing for unloading several bug buses at once.

The so-called Hall of Cities at the Convention Center of Orlando World Center Marriott. I guess this name reflects the fact that many Convention Center rooms located here have names of all American major cities. This hall serves also as another entrance to Convention Center - an escalator connects hotel' lobby and Hall of Cities.

Premises of the Convention Center at Orlando World Center Marriott. This picture illustrates typical environment and decor of the Center. Indeed, it is very big as this vast space in front of the Crystal Ballroom (one of four ballrooms) suggests.

There are cozy corners and areas inside vast spaces of the Convention Center at Orlando World Center Marriott where you can sit and have a private conversation or just relax and watch TV.

Inside Crystal Ballroom of the Convention Center at Orlando World Center Marriott. If you think it is big, keep in mind that it is the smallest of four ballrooms at the Center. Grand Ballroom and Palm Ballroom are just slightly bigger. The last one, Cypress Ballroom, is really huge. It is probably five - six times bigger than Crystal Ballroom.

The same Crystal Ballroom of the Convention Center at Orlando World Center Marriott during actual conference. With custom lighting and tables with refreshments and food, the atmosphere is friendly and businesslike.

Ballrooms of the Convention Center at Orlando World Center Marriott are well equipped with all modern video and audio technology. For example, this studio video camera with its huge zoom allows for close-circuit TV broadcasting of speakers talking on the podium to big screens in ballrooms.

Perhaps the Crystal Ballroom (Convention Center at Orlando World Center Marriott) originated from this chandelier in the middle of the ballroom. It is far from enough to illuminate the room - there are many other light fixtures mounted under the ceiling and remotely controlled offering all sorts of lights of various intensity, colors and focus.

11th Hour Technology Center at the Convention Center at Orlando World Center Marriott. Technology center offers computers, communication facilities, copy machine, network broadband connections. You can also buy some office supplies.

This display tells us that the 11th Hour Technology Center at the Convention Center at Orlando World Center Marriott is opened from 7am to 6:30 pm. Mailing facilities with FedEx and UPS pick service are available as well.
