Renting a car while visiting Sint Maarten-Saint Martin can be a
good idea. It gives you a chance to explore the whole island and especially its
many beaches. Also, you will see the real life on the island which may be not
so glamorous as it is presented by glossy tourist brochures and Web sites.
Rates are low - with some luck you can find a Toyota with air conditioning and
automatic transmission for $150/week.
Finally, a couple of tips. If you decide to rent a car, do it in advance. One
of the places where you can do this is Best Car Rental -
they many locations on the island including airports. You can call them toll
free from the US. Another advice, do not leave anything in your car even for a
brief time; chances are high that the car will be broken into and everything
that has a value will be stolen.

The island has a variety of landscapes. It can go to lush green and aqua
colored water to darker colored water and dry, desert-type ground cover. The
island has Nature Reserve.

Driving around St. Maarten: there is even a skateboard park. Not sure if it
is open to skates or not.
